Playing host to a major International Tournament is a major coup for Volleyball Lancashire. To be involved in such a prestigious event gave us chance to publicise our sport in the area, carry out much needed development work and find new players an a developing area. Prior to the main event there was open junior coaching for Blackpool youngsters through schools taster sessions and open public sessions. The invaluable help of Geoff Allen, Steve Evans and Karl Stobbs plus the hard work of many Southport College junior coaches paid off in droves with many youngsters realising that the sport had potential for them and wanting to join a more formal club.
The Masters itself, televised on Sky Sports in October, was an amazing spectacle showcasing the top talent from around Europe. With our members working the courts and making sure the event ran smoothly it was an occasion not to be missed by anyone.
